Welcome to a new kind of venture capital investing — investing with Compound Influence™.
The Cashmere Fund is the first direct to consumer venture capital fund to leverage influence to create differentiated opportunity and value. Founded by a core group of believers and leaders in the implicit power of influence, Cashmere provides any consumer investor with an innovative way to invest your money in an asset class that historically has only been available to accredited investors.
Compound Influence™ is our “superpower.” In short, Compound Influence is the cumulative effect of influence over time– in which small, individual acts of influence build on one another to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Compound Influence™ (n): The cumulative effect of influence over time – in which small, individual acts of influence build on one another to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
As Fund Managers, we began to employ and understand the concept of Compound Influence in our first years as General Partners at our traditional venture capital firm, Forma Capital. Due to our influential relationships with athletes and track record, Forma Capital was asked to join the cap table and invest in the Major League Pickleball Los Angeles Mad Drops1. We brought along a few friends you may have heard of. The ownership and influence of these elite athletes immediately propelled the franchise brand identity, media exposure, and interest, and––most importantly––its franchise valuation.
When thinking of the word Compound, what most of us think of first is the term Compound Interest. Compound Interest in finance refers to the process in which the interest earned on an initial principal amount of money also earns its own interest over time. The interest is calculated on both the principal and the accumulated interest from previous periods. This leads to exponential growth as the interest compounds on itself, creating a snowball effect.
Compound Influence functions in a similar way. Think of each layer of influence as its own level of interest, enhancing the next layer and the one after that–– potentially accelerating growth and amplifying results. In the context of brands and portfolio companies, when a community of people, influencers, or platforms endorse or interact with a product, the combined layers of influence may grow exponentially, spreading the brand's visibility and credibility faster than a single source of influence could achieve alone. This network effect creates a self-reinforcing cycle, wherein each new advocate or user strengthens the brand’s overall influence, making it more likely to gain traction and sustain long-term success.
As this relates to The Cashmere Fund, the layers of influence are multiple – from our influential backers to our influential company founders, to you – the active community of investors. Each of our investors functions within the multiple layers of influence, which may help catapult our growth, impact, and returns.
We look forward to evolving our portfolio using the thesis of Compound Influence through our new investments, integrating influence into our current portfolio brands where appropriate, and growing our community of investors.
Through our network, we have better data and insights on influential rising stars, which gives us the greatest chances of picking the CEOs and Founders of the future, and investing in them early.
By bringing influential backers into The Cashmere Fund we seek to create better visibility for our portfolio companies and in turn, potentially create access to capital and future liquidity events.
As fund manager, we aim to support the portfolio companies within The Cashmere Fund by creating partnership opportunities, placing them in the cultural spotlight and potentially accelerating their success in the marketplace.
By leveraging the scale of our network of investors, we offer our investors the opportunity to become advocates for our brands and portfolio companies, designed to create a supercharging effect on their value creation.
